Pinewood Pictures is the investment and content-owning division of Pinewood Group Limited. As well as offering direct equity investment, Pinewood Pictures acts as fund advisor to both The Isle of Man Media Development Fund (£25m) and The Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget (£30m).

Pinewood Pictures is able to offer flexible investment across gap, equity, pre-sale and tax credit lending, benefiting from the experience of its personnel in film development, finance, production and distribution.

Pinewood Pictures offers three sources of financing:

  • The Isle of Man Media Development Fund
  • The Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget
  • Pinewood Group Equity Investment

The Isle of Man Media Development Fund

Through Pinewood Pictures, the Isle of Man Media Development Fund has a range of funding options available to UK Film and TV productions, including equity finance investment, gap finance and discounting of the UK tax credit and pre-sales of a project. The Isle of Man Media Development Fund, an evergreen fund of £25m to be used on film and TV productions, can be used in conjunction with The Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget and with Pinewood equity investment.

Key considerations for the Isle of Man Media Development Fund:

  • Use of Isle of Man facilities will make projects more attractive to the Fund, though this is not a pre-requisite
  • Use of the purpose built film studio on the Island is available
  • Employment of Isle of Man film workers and the use of ancillary Isle of Man services is a vital factor in consideration of applications
  • Isle of Man Film and Pinewood Pictures can provide information on shooting locations and facilities on the Isle of Man. For an overview, please go to www.gov.im/ded/iomfilm

Previous projects in which the Isle of Man Media Fund has invested include ME AND ORSON WELLES, MISS POTTER, THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED, TT3D: CLOSER TO THE EDGE, BELLE, THE SHADOW LINE, DOM HEMINGWAY, SPOOKS: THE GREATER GOOD, PRESSURE, TAKE DOWN, and MINDHORN.

The Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget

Pinewood Pictures also advises the Welsh Government on its Media Investment Budget, targeting film and television projects that can shoot 50% of principal photography in Wales. The Media Investment Budget is an evergreen fund of £30m to be used on film and TV productions filming in Wales and incurring Welsh spend available from 1st March 2014 – 28 February 2019. It can be used in conjunction with the Isle of Man fund and with Pinewood equity investment.

Key considerations of the Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget:

  • Production must be able to shoot 50% of principal photography in Wales;
  • Pinewood Pictures and Wales Screen can provide information on shooting in Wales. For an overview, please go to www.walesscreen.com;
  • In addition, Pinewood’s own studio facility in Cardiff is available for film and TV productions:
    • Including 2 sound-treated stages at 20,000 sq ft each and an additional 30,000 sq ft of shooting floor;
    • 70,000 sq ft of mixed use production space, including production accommodation and modern, flexible offices and amenities;
    • Close proximity to central Cardiff and a variety of stunning locations;
